Industry Doctoral Student 2017 – Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research

The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) is allocating SEK 30 million for a programme for Industrial Doctoral/Licentiate Students during 2017. Each grant in the programme provides funding for one industry doctoral or licentiate student’s research and postgraduate studies, in collaboration between industry and academia. The grant runs for two to five years and shall result in a doctorate (Ph.D.) or licentiate exam. SSF expects to fund 12-24 projects at SEK 2.5 million or 1,25 millon each (including indirect costs) in this call for proposals.

Collaboration between industry and academia is important for the dissemination of knowledge and technology in society. According to its statutes, SSF shall foster the development of strong research environments with high strategic relevance, promote postdoctoral studies and collaboration between academia and industry, and encourage mobility. One instrument to achieve this is to support doctoral/licentiate studies in collaboration between academia and industry.

Functional Genetics, Epigenetics, and Non-coding RNAs in Substance Use Disorders (R01, R21)

Genetic and genomic studies have identified genes and gene variants that may impact the fundamental biological mechanisms underpinning substance use disorders (SUDs).  Discovery of these genes/variants, while extremely valuable, is only the first step in understanding the molecular processes that influence SUDs. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages basic functional genetic and genomic research in two areas:  1. functional validation to determine which candidate genes/variants/epigenetic/non-coding RNA features have an authentic role in SUDs, and 2. detailed elucidation of the molecular pathways and processes modulated by candidate genes/variants, particularly for those genes with an unanticipated role in SUDs.

Closing dates: every February 5, June 5, and October 5 until January 8, 2020 (R01); every February 16, June 16, and October 16 until January 8, 2020 (R21).
