Call for projects to the Novo Nordisk Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at Karolinska Institutet 2017

All principal investigators at Karolinska Institutet are hereby invited to submit a project for consideration to the Novo Nordisk Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at Karolinska Institutet within basic, translational, clinical, and/or epidemiological research with an emphasis on diabetes and its comorbidities, endocrinology and metabolism. The aim is to support the development of a new generation of exceptional young researchers, who will become future leaders, while further developing scientific excellence within these fields and ultimately improving the lives of patients.

The program is looking for the best fellows we can recruit nationally and internationally who have the potential to become future leaders in the field. We are targeting the fellowships to final year PhD students or to postdocs who are completing their first postdoc. Therefore, we are looking for very early career applicants, before they would be eligible for an externally funded intermediate fellowship

Postdoctoral fellowships within biotechnology-based synthesis and production - Novo Nordisk Foundation

The Novo Nordisk Foundation invites applications for its postdoctoral fellowships within biotechnology-based synthesis and production. These support fundamental and applied research in biotechnology-based synthesis and production to generate products in improved and more sustainable ways. Projects must involve an element of biotechnology and must contain a laboratory component. An applicant must either have a PhD or equivalent degree obtained within 6 years of the application deadline date, or, be a PhD student who will defend her/his thesis before 1 November 2017. Up to DKK 800,000 per year is available per fellowship for between one and three years and an additional amount of up to DKK 100,000 is available to cover costs related to a stay at a collaborating laboratory.

These support projects within dermatology that address issues in disease understanding, disease treatment, disease awareness and patient wellbeing. Applicants may be based at a university, hospital, institute or other legal entity. Priority will be given to projects that commit to sharing results with the general public, patients and healthcare professionals, that have international scope and are based at a university or university hospital. Support is also given to university-based educational activities within natural sciences that help attract students to medicine, chemistry and pharmacy. In past years grants have varied between DKK 265,000 and DKK 13,100,000.

Sommarskola om åldrande, fysisk aktivitet och åldrande – Forte (Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare)

Forte, i samarbete med the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, inbjuder ansökningar om deltagande på sommarskola om åldrande med fokus på fysisk aktivitet och åldrande. Sommarskolan, som kommer ta plats i Montreal, Kanada 15-19 maj 2017, syftar till att ge doktorander, andra studenter samt postdoktorer intresserade av forskning om fysisk aktivitet och åldrande en avancerad utbildning som korsar discipliner, institutioner och geografi. Forte står för kostnaderna för sommarskola, logi och resa. Fyra deltagare och två mentorer kan beviljas.

Research Institute PhD - Stiftelsen för Strategisk Forskning, SSF (Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research)

The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) is allocating SEK 20 million for a programme for research institute doctoral students. Each grant in the programme provides funding for research and postgraduate studies for a doctoral student who is employed at a Swedish research institute, in collaboration between industry and academia. The grant runs for four to five years and shall result in a doctorate (Ph.D.). SSF expects to fund eight projects at SEK 2.5 million each (including indirect costs) in this call for proposals.

Advokatbyrån förvaltar och administrerar ett antal stiftelser samt ett antal bolag som är anknutna till dessa stiftelser, som syftar till att stödja forskning rörande folksjukdomarnas behandling och prevention. Vidare kan anslag beviljas till grundforskning på det medicinska området. Stiftelsen Ragnhild och Einar Lundströms Minne stöder företrädesvis åldringsrelaterad forskning med inriktning på vård och omsorg. Aktiv medverkan i vetenskapligt möte kan erhålla stöd för resa, uppehälle och kongressavgift. Inbjudan eller liknande skall bifogas. Bidrag omfattar normalt mellan SEK 5,000 och SEK 100,000 var.

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute invite applications for their advancing erythroid cell biology (R01) grants. Family and interpersonal relationships in an ageing context (R01) – NIH

This R01 funding opportunity announcement encourages innovative, hypothesis-driven research that can expand understanding of the role and impact of families and interpersonal relationships on health and well-being in midlife and older age. International OCD Foundation Research Grant

Promoting research into the causes and treatment of OCD and related disorders is a top priority of the International OCD Foundation. In 1994 the Foundation launched the Research Grant Award Program. Each year, the program funds three to eight research grants ranging between $25K to $50K per project, with a total of $70k to $300k given out annually.

The IOCDF is very committed to funding junior investigators. As a doctoral student (or post-doctoral fellow) you are able to list yourself as the Principal Investigator on your grant; however, please be sure to include a letter of support from your mentor.

National multiple sclerosis Society Research Grants

Marfan Foundation Early investigator grant

The Marfan Foundation invites applications for its early investigator programme. This supports early investigators studying any or all disciplines involved in Marfan syndrome or a related disorder. Areas of interest include basic research, translational studies and clinical studies in cardiovascular, orthopaedic, pulmonary, pain, ophthalmogic and other pertinent disciplines utilising synergistic collaborations. This may be integration of novel theories from non-traditional researchers into established paradigms, novel animal model systems, innovation and the distillation of knowledge into practical new therapies.

Investigators, holding an MD, DO, PhD, ScD, DDS, DVM or equivalent degree with less than seven years’ experience in a faculty position and who have never received an NIH R01 grant award, may apply. Successful applicants may not hold concurrent NIH K award or similar training grant, however, they can receive more than one early investigator grant during the seven year experience limit. Work can be performed in the US or internationally and non-US appointments are acceptable. Payments are made to the applicant’s institution.

Grants are worth up to USD 37,500 per year for a maximum period of two years. Funding period begins 1 July 2017 and ends 30 June 2019.
